Open Letter To OGBCA Members:

In the past few months I have been doing much research concerning the  possibility of having girl's basketball participating during the OCA Summer Clinic in the McDonald's games.  I realize that we have voted this down as an organization the past couple of years but there are some  things that have changed, in a positive way, and I would like for all of  you to have this information.

Milt Bassett has offered us the option to stage these games, as our association would like.  There would be two games: Small school and Large school, these would be played on Wednesday night of the OCA Clinic
week.  This is a change from some of the ultimatums given by his  predecessor.  Our organization could continue to sponsor the OGBCA game, as in the past, while also formulating the selection process of the
McDonald's Game.  This would be another post-season honor for some of our players and a good way to promote girl's basketball in Oklahoma.  With the time between the two games (almost two months), both games should complement each other for exposure in the media and with fans. This will still allow us to put all of our energy and effort into making our OGBCA All-State the best it can be because.  Our only responsibility
for the McDonalds game would be selection of the teams.  The OCA will administer all other aspects of the game.

One concern that I've heard is a loss of identity if we begin this association with the OCA. Since we are not being asked to give up our game, I believe that the OGBCA will only get stronger with this
new step forward for girl's basketball.  By beginning this association with the OCA, we will need a solid OGBCA serving as our voice.  That voice could now come from within an organization representing many
 sports.

Having been a member of both organizations for 21 years, I truly believe the best representative body for girl's basketball in Oklahoma is the  OGBCA. I also believe that the OGBCA has to consider new ideas that will
be in the best interest for the promotion and advancement of girl's  basketball.

If you have any questions concerning this matter please contact any of our  board members.

 Respectfully submitted,
